Spec-ID Provides Specialized LEED Services

Does your company pass on bidding projects with LEED requirements in the specification?  Avoiding LEED project bids can now be a thing of the past, and bidding on LEED projects can increase your profits in the future.

Over 2.2 million square feet of LEED certified projects are built per day. This fast-growing segment of the construction industry is an opportunity almost any flooring contractor can learn to capitalize on starting today. Your team could be spending time on the next project, while we take over the LEED reporting for those bids or installed projects.

Spec-ID LEED™ services are available to all of our subscribers, and many of our subscribers consider this a competitive advantage.

Prior to Spec-ID

Many flooring contractors bypassed LEED projects, and there may be a few reasons why.

Flooring contractors wanted to avoid the time required to work through gathering the required information, and where and how to enter the information on LEED forms. In addition to time wasted, many didn’t feel as though they had the resources to accomplish these tasks.

Project managers had to ask these kinds of questions; Is the certificate valid? Do I have all the documents required? How do I assemble all this information and enter the correct data on the form? Does the reviewer send back the LEED package for changes or missing information, meaning rework and more time spent to provide a final package for payment?

MAPEI conducted an online survey and found these frequently mentioned LEED administrative challenges:

  • Insufficient assistance or information provided by suppliers, 26.9%

  • Difficulty with accessing the information on how to complete submittals for LEED projects, 21.5%

  • Difficulty in contacting a knowledgeable person to answer their LEED-related questions, 19.4%

  • Getting information they need is not provided in a timely manner, 10.8%.

Just over half of the contractors surveyed indicated that only 10% of their work was with a LEED project.

LEED Press Release

In February 2021, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released its annual list of the Top 10 States for LEED green buildings. A reprint of the media release was published by Floor Daily and reported that while offices, education, and healthcare projects accounted for a majority of certifications, warehouses, distribution centers, multifamily and retail projects represented almost 20%. Also, almost half of all projects were certified Gold, indicating a commitment to a high level of certification.
